Flags

Treasurer, Sam Crain helping place the flags on Main Street.

Our American flag service has been part of our fundraising program since it began in 1963. Our dedicated group of members place and remove American flags in front of businesses on patriotic federal holidays, which include Martin Luther King Day, Presidents’ Day, Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Juneteenth Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, and Veterans Day. Flags are not displayed only when there is inclement weather.

Revenue from the flag service, along with other funding sources, is used for grants, scholarships and service projects that support the educational, social/emotional, and recreational needs of the youth of Haywood County. Other club activities include the Waynesville Christmas and 4th of July Children’s Parades, the Kiwanis and All Abilities Playgrounds in Waynesville, and the newly opened All Abilities Playground in Canton. Kiwanis also conducts an annual 5th Grade Spelling Bee and provides dictionaries to all 3rd grade students in Haywood County. For new subscribers, a one-time service cost is $100, which covers set up and the first year of flag service. After the first year, the annual service fee is $50; it will be invoiced each July. Current subscribers may have already received a paper invoice. If you have returned the subscriber form with a cash or check payment, we thank you.
